Volunteers will help to support and manage the event day volunteers! Specifically, volunteers will help staff the volunteer check-in tent, process folks who arrive to volunteer, hand out t-shirts, and direct volunteers to where they are needed during the event (including any needed redeployment).

Volunteers will assist with setting directional barricades at parking lots. They will direct participants to the appropriate parking areas and assist with traffic flow. This is the introduction participants have to the event, so a friendly and smooth process makes for a great first impression! Must be over the age of 15. Under 18 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

The ShareForCures unicorn (dressed in a unicorn costume) serves as a walking conversation starter, drawing attention and creating memorable, lighthearted moments for event participants. Volunteers serving as the SFC unicorn should be open, approachable and encouraging when speaking to participants about this activation as it relates to Komen and breast cancer. Volunteers in these roles must be 18 or older. Volunteers must speak with the Development Engagmenet Manger prior to being approved for role.

Volunteers will help to support and manage the vendor check-in process, serve vendor needs throughout the event, distribute vendor appreciation items, collect banners for vendor pick up post event, and helping maintain a clean area by collecting and emptying trashcans.

Volunteers will assist with the set-up and tear-down of the reflective We Remember Tent. They’ll manage the area activation and encourage participants to enter and participate in honoring the memory of a loved one by writing a note or placing a photo on ribbons hung in the tents. Volunteers in this tent must be 21 or older and open and encouraging in speaking to participants about this area as it relates to Komen and breast cancer.

Volunteers will be assigned to a specific area upon check-in based on event needs. Volunteers will assist with the set-up, activation and tear-down of the Registration and Check-In area where participants can register for the event, turn in donations, make self-donations and pick up participant materials. Volunteers participating as cashiers must be at least 18 years old and are required to submit a background check to qualify for this role. Volunteers should be able to operate with a high degree of confidence and assert a level of respectful authority to facilitate a smooth flow, dealing with bottlenecks and backups.

Volunteers will assist with the set-up, activation, cleaniness, and tear-down of Hope Village – a designated area for survivors and those living with Metastatic Breast Cancer. Hope Village will have a decorative and celebratory atmosphere and serves as the gathering place for those participating in the Pathway of Hope entrance to the Opening Ceremony. Volunteers will manage the area activation and welcome and serve survivors within the area. Survivors can be recognized as those wearing pink event shirts. MBC thrivers can be recognized by those wearing teal shirts.

Volunteers will assist with the set-up, activation, cleaniness, and tear-down of the Top Teams / Top Fundraiser Area – a designated area to honor: Teams/Captains* for teams that have raised $2,500+. This area’s guests are incredibly valuable to Komen and volunteers should treat them with the highest level of customer service and gratitude. Top Fundraisers - individuals who have raised $1,000 or Teams/Captains* for teams that have raised ($2,500+). This area’s guest are incredibly valuable to Komen and volunteers should treat them with the highest level of customer service and gratitude. The area is celebratory atmosphere with ample opportunity to THANK those that are funding Komen’s mission. Volunteers will manage the area activation and welcome and serve VIPs within the area, while making sure the area is reserved for team members.

The Mission Area volunteers assist with set-up, activation & tear-down of the mission area. They will encourage participants to sign up to volunteer with Komen or organize a Go Pink for the Cure event in their communities, share information about metastatic breast cancer and Komen's Patient Care Center, and invite people to take action by becoming a Komen Advocacy Insider. Volunteers will further assist by taking pictures of participants at the area’s selfie station. Volunteers must be open & encouraging in speaking to participants about Komen’s mission.

Photographers are needed to help capture the celebration and emotion of the event. Photographers will receive shot assignments the week of the event and will be asked to download all photos taken onto a Komen hard drive before leaving the event, if possible. By signing up as a volunteer photographer, photographers acknowledge that Susan G. Komen has an unlimited irrevocable license to use, edit, and publish all photographs for any purpose and on any medium. Photographers also acknowledge that Susan G. Komen may grant a limited license for its partners to use the photographs solely to promote the partnership and attendance at the event. Photographers must have their own camera - no smart phones please.

VOLUNTEER AGREEMENT

I AGREE ALL REPRESENTATIONS, RELEASES, WAIVERS, AND COVENANTS ARE GIVEN ON BEHALF OF ME, MY MINOR CHILDREN, AND WARDS WHO VOLUNTEER.

WAIVER & RELEASE. In consideration for volunteering for event(s) (“Event”) as detailed on the site in which I registered, I for myself and next of kin/heirs, waive and release The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. (“Komen”), its directors, employees, volunteers, agents, affiliates, vendors, contractors, and successors (collectively, “Releasees”), from any and all claims, injuries, damages and attorneys’ fees arising out of or relating to volunteer activities which may include but are not limited to risks inherent in participating in the Event such as strenuous physical activity associated with walking, running, or otherwise traveling long distances, fundraising, gathering with people (and pets, if applicable), being shuttled to other sites, eating and drinking, staying overnight in a tent or hotel room with others Komen may assign to that space (if applicable), using public streets and facilities, emergency response, and administering first aid (if applicable) (“Activities”).

I understand Activities may involve risk of bodily injury or property damage and could result in death or disability. I voluntarily assume all risks related to Activities, including, but not limited to, falls, contact with people/animals, exposure to COVID- 19 or other illnesses or disease, negligent/intentional acts, driving to/from Event, defects/conditions of premises, extreme weather or other environmental hazards, all such risks being known and understood by me.

This Release extends to claims and facts unknown and unsuspected to exist at the time of executing this Release. All rights under Section 1542 of the CA Civil Code are expressly waived with respect to any of the claims, injuries, or damages described in this agreement. Section 1542 of the California Civil Code: A GENERAL RELEASE DOES NOT EXTEND TO CLAIMS THAT THE CREDITOR OR RELEASING PARTY DOES NOT KNOW OR SUSPECT TO EXIST IN HIS FAVOR AT THE TIME OF EXECUTING THE RELEASE, AND THAT IF KNOWN BY HIM WOULD HAVE MATERIALLY AFFECTED HIS SETTLEMENT WITH THE DEBTOR OR RELEASED PARTY.

CONFIDENTIALITY. I may be granted limited access to confidential/health information. I agree to maintain confidentiality of all information including, but not limited to, medical histories, diagnoses, treatments, as well as Komen’s operation, structure, employees, financials, marketing strategy, donor lists/amounts, upcoming events, current/proposed transactions, sponsorships, proprietary information, and information that is not otherwise public. I will only access this information to perform volunteer duties and will not use it in a manner that would be detrimental or impair the reputation of Komen.

PUBLICITY RELEASE. I give Komen the irrevocable, perpetual, and worldwide right to use, copy, publicly perform, display, distribute, modify, translate, and create derivative works of, for any purpose and without compensation, my name, city and state or geographical region, statements, biographical information, including but not limited to my personal health information, likeness, photos, videos, voice, audio, and other recordings of me, and any original material I create, as well as any personal statements, photographs whether provided/created by me or created by Komen or its agents, related to Event (“Materials”). I waive the right to inspect or approve Materials. I further represent and warrant that I own and control all rights to such Materials and have the right to grant the license and ownership to Komen and its licensees, successors, and assigns, and that all contributions do, and will, comply with Komen’s Terms of Use found on komen.org. I release the Grantees from any liability, damages, or claims resulting from the use of Materials.

I hereby acknowledge Komen’s sole ownership of Materials provided by me when (i) uploaded and/or submitted through an online portal, including but not limited to komen.org and social media channels (ii) attached to an email, or (iii) by any other electronic means via cell phone or computer. I waive the right to inspect or approve Materials. Komen may assign any of the above rights to third parties. I release Komen from any liability, damages, or claims resulting from the use of the Materials, including, but not limited to, claims for libel or invasion of privacy. I understand and agree that the terms herein are binding on my releasors, assigns, and legal representatives.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT. I am not an employee and do not expect payment. I am medically/physically able to volunteer and take responsibility for consulting a physician. I consent to emergency medical care/transportation if injured, as medical professionals deem appropriate. This extends to liability arising out of or connected to medical care/transportation provided. I certify that I have not had symptoms of or been exposed to COVID-19 in the past fourteen days. If impacted by COVID-19 I will not volunteer. I will obey all laws and safety procedures relating to Event. I will exhibit appropriate behavior and not to endanger others or negatively affect Event or any person/property. I agree not to disparage Komen or any of its officers, directors, employees, and agents, in any manner likely to be harmful to them or their reputation.

I certify I am at least 18 years old and have reached the age of majority in the state which I reside. I understand minors under 18 or otherwise under the age of majority must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who is also a registered volunteer. I understand I have given up substantial rights by accepting this agreement and have signed it freely and voluntarily. My acceptance is a complete and unconditional release of liability.

This agreement will be construed under the laws of Texas. If any provision is deemed unenforceable, Komen may modify to the extent needed to be deemed enforceable and all other provisions will remain in full force and effect.
