Volunteers will help to support and manage the event day volunteers! Specifically, volunteers will help staff the volunteer check-in tent, process folks who arrive to volunteer, hand out t-shirts, and direct volunteers to where they are needed during the event (including any needed redeployment). Volunteers will assist with setting directional barricades at parking lots. They will direct participants to the appropriate parking areas and assist with traffic flow. This is the introduction participants have to the event, so a friendly and smooth process makes for a great first impression! Must be over the age of 18. Parking volunteers may be stationed at satelitte locations. Parking locations will be communicated in advance of the event.

Volunteers in this area will be responsible for assisting those requiring first aid and offering transport to the first aid tent, if needed. Should be willing and able to push a wheelchair and/or drive a golf cart throughout the venue to transport participants. All medical volunteers will be required to provide current active licenses and insurance information.

Volunteers will assist with the set-up, activation, cleaniness, and tear-down of Hope Village – a designated area for survivors and those living with Metastatic Breast Cancer. Hope Village will have a decorative and celebratory atmosphere and serves as the gathering place for those participating in the Pathway of Hope entrance to the Opening Ceremony. Volunteers will manage the area activation and welcome and serve survivors within the area. Survivors can be recognized as those wearing pink event shirts. MBC thrivers can be recognized by those wearing teal shirts.

The VIP areas will have a decorative and celebratory atmosphere with ample opportunity to THANK those that are funding Komen’s mission. Volunteers will manage the area activation and welcome and serve VIPs within the area.

Volunteers will assist with the set-up, activation and tear-down of the ShareForCures (SFC) unicorn activation. They will help guide the volunteer serving as the SFC Unicorn, manage the distribution of unicorn headbands and postcards throughout the event site, take photos with participants and direct individuals interested in learning more about SFC to Hope Village for more information. Volunteers should be open, approachable and encouraging when speaking to participants about this activation as it relates to Komen and breast cancer. Volunteers in these roles must be 18 or older. Volunteers must speak with the Development Engagement Manger prior to being approved for role.

Within Hope Village will be a table dedicated to activating individuals around ShareForCures (SFC), Komen’s breast cancer research registry. The SFC Lead in Hope Village will mange the SFC information table, pass out literature, answer questions and encourage individuals to join an upcoming SFC info session to learn more.

Volunteers will manage the distribution of branded giveaways and informational postcards to promote Share For Cures (SFC), Komen’s patient-centered research database. Tasks include filling (and replenishing as needed) SFC tote bags with promotional giveaways and postcards, then roaming the event site to hand them out. Volunteers will direct participants with questions to the SFC info table in Hope Village. Volunteers must be able to walk/stand for long periods of time and lift 25 lbs. Under 18 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

The Mission Area volunteers assist with set-up, activation, cleanliness, & tear-down of the mission area. They will encourage participants to sign up to volunteer with Komen or organize a Go Pink for the Cure event in their communities, share information about metastatic breast cancer and Komen's Patient Care Center, and invite people to take action by becoming a Komen Advocacy Insider. Volunteers will further assist by taking pictures of participants at the area’s selfie station. Volunteers must be open & encouraging in speaking to participants about Komen’s mission.

Volunteers will assist with the set-up and tear-down of the reflective We Remember Tent. They’ll manage the area activation and encourage participants to enter and participate in honoring the memory of a loved one by writing a note or placing a photo on ribbons hung in the tents. Volunteers in this tent must be 18 or older and open and encouraging in speaking to participants about this area as it relates to Komen and breast cancer.

Volunteer photographers are needed to help capture the celebration and emotion of the event. Photographers will receive shot assignments the week of the event and will be asked to upload all photos to a Komen SmugMug within one week of the event. By signing up as a volunteer photographer, photographers acknowledge that Susan G. Komen has an unlimited irrevocable license to use, edit, and publish all photographs for any purpose and on any medium. Photographers also acknowledge that Susan G. Komen may grant a limited license for its partners to use the photographs solely to promote the partnership and attendance at the event. Photographers must have their own camera - no smart phones please.

Volunteers’ primary responsibility it to ensure the participants stay on the assigned course/route. They will alert participants to any route obstacles or changes as well as cheer them on. This job is a great opportunity for parent/child teams! You will be stationed throughout the course, so be prepared to stand and bring water and sunscreen with you. Under 18 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

Volunteers will assist with the set-up, activation, cleaniness, and tear-down of the Top Teams Area – a designated area to honor Teams/Captains* for teams that have raised $2,500+. This area’s guests are incredibly valuable to Komen and volunteers should treat them with the highest level of customer service and gratitude. The Top Team area is celebratory atmosphere with ample opportunity to THANK those that are funding Komen’s mission. Volunteers will manage the area activation and welcome and serve VIPs within the area, while making sure the area is reserved for team members.

Volunteers will assist with various aspects of tear-down & clean-up of the full event, depending on site specific needs. Tasks may include but are not limited to: table/chair clean up, popup tents, moving event barricades, taking down signage, banners, and decorations, moving supplies as needed, collecting and emptying trashcans, and cleaning up water stations and/or food and beverage areas. Volunteers must be available to work the entire shift and be able to perform all duties. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Under 18 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

Volunteers will cheer participants along the route! Feel free to bring pompoms, noise makers, homemade signs, etc. to add even more spirit to your cheer station. Volunteers will assist with the preparation, activation and follow through of the Pathway of Hope – a procession of participants which leads into the Opening Ceremony, and truly the highlight of the event. The procession begins at Hope Village and leads to the stage where the host of the program is ready to begin the ceremony. Survivors can be recognized as those wearing pink event shirts. MBC thrivers can be recognized by those wearing teal shirts.

VOLUNTEER AGREEMENT

I AGREE ALL REPRESENTATIONS, RELEASES, WAIVERS, AND COVENANTS ARE GIVEN ON BEHALF OF ME, MY MINOR CHILDREN, AND WARDS WHO VOLUNTEER.

WAIVER & RELEASE - In consideration for volunteering for event(s) (“Event”), I for myself and next of kin/heirs, waive and release The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. (“Komen”), its directors, employees, volunteers, agents, affiliates, vendors, contractors, and successors (collectively, “Releasees”), from any and all claims, injuries, damages and attorneys’ fees arising out from volunteer activities (“Activities”).

I understand Activities may involve risk of bodily injury or property damage. I voluntarily assume all risks related to Activities, including, but not limited to, falls, contact with people/animals, exposure to COVID-19, negligent/intentional acts, driving to/from Event, defects/conditions of premises, extreme weather, all such risks being known and understood by me.

This Release extends to claims and facts unknown and unsuspected to exist at the time of executing this Release. All rights under Section 1542 of the CA Civil Code are expressly waived with respect to any of the claims, injuries, or damages described in this agreement. Section 1542 of the California Civil Code: A GENERAL RELEASE DOES NOT EXTEND TO CLAIMS THAT THE CREDITOR OR RELEASING PARTY DOES NOT KNOW OR SUSPECT TO EXIST IN HIS FAVOR AT THE TIME OF EXECUTING THE RELEASE, AND THAT IF KNOWN BY HIM WOULD HAVE MATERIALLY AFFECTED HIS SETTLEMENT WITH THE DEBTOR OR RELEASED PARTY.

CONFIDENTIALITY - I may be granted limited access to confidential/health information. I agree to maintain confidentiality of all information including, but not limited to, medical histories, diagnoses, treatments, as well as Komen’s operation, structure, employees, financials, marketing strategy, donor lists/amounts, upcoming events, current/proposed transactions, sponsorships, proprietary information, and information that is not otherwise public. I will only access this information to preform volunteer duties and will not use it in a manner that would be detrimental or impair the reputation of Komen.

PUBLICITY RELEASE - I give Releasees the irrevocable, perpetual, and worldwide right to use, copy, publicly perform, display, distribute, modify, translate, and create derivative works of, for any purpose and without compensation, my statements, information, photos, videos, audio, and other recordings of me and any original material I create related to Event (“Materials”). I waive the right to inspect or approve Materials. I release the Grantees from any liability, damages, or claims resulting from the use of Materials.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT - I am not an employee and do not expect payment. I am medically/physically able to volunteer and take responsibility for consulting a physician. I consent to emergency medical care/transportation if injured, as medical professionals deem appropriate. This extends to liability arising out of or connected to medical care/transportation provided. I certify that I have not had symptoms of or been exposed to COVID-19 in the past fourteen days. If impacted by COVID-19 I will not volunteer. I will obey all laws and safety procedures relating to Event. I will exhibit appropriate behavior and not to endanger others or negatively affect Event or any person/property.

This agreement will be construed under the laws of Texas. If any provision is deemed unenforceable, Komen may modify to the extent needed to be deemed enforceable and all other provisions will remain in full force and effect.

I certify I am at least 18 years old. I understand minors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who is also a registered volunteer. I understand I have given up substantial rights by accepting this agreement and have signed it freely and voluntarily. My acceptance is a complete and unconditional release of liability.
